Well after six years i am finally building a new gaming rig.
The old p4 is getting very tired in spite of the misc upgrades,
I'm suprised it lived this long.
The parts ordered:
ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor
Kingston HyperX 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) Triple Channel Kit
Parts I have:
Nvidea Quadro FX4600 768MB 384-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
Western Digital VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS 150GB 10000 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive (Raid 0)
Antec Sonata Elite Black 0.8mm cold rolled steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Belkin Nostromo N-52 gaming controller
Razer Death Adder gaming mouse

Now the big question??? OS
what OS do you guys think i should use
32 bit xp
64 bit xp
vista ultimate
windows 7 beta 64 bit

i just made a machine for my mom...
Granny was getting tired of her old Duron 1.8 Ghz

AMD 4400x2 64 bit, 2 gig DDR 2, 80 gig Sata, 512 meg vid card Nivida 8500GT
Asus Micro ATX.. Windows XP 64 bit...

not the fastest machine out there but didn't want to spend a lot of money.
just a wee bit faster than mine but man it boots from post... to OS in under 15 seconds

ya i know what ya mean about a new fast machine.
mine use to be like that... now i can start her up and go make a coffee... lol

i think i am getting close to a format and fresh install.. :p

darn I'm too late.  I've been running vista x64 on all my systems that supports 64bit, and has more than 2GB ram.  I hate XP 64bit, the thing has lousy application and driver support.

Vista may suck but it's 64bit version is much better than the XP 64bit.  Everytihng that does run well on vista 32bit, 99.9999% of them would run on vista x64.  which is like 80% more support than XP 64bit will ever have.  I think M$ and most others have abandon XP 64bit.

Ahh thats not true... i see more and more places offering new machines that come with Vista and are offering to get rid of it and apply XP-64.

also i am seeing a trend to get drivers built for older printers and such...

plus i bought my XP-64 for $100.00 when no one wanted it... now you can't find it for under $180.00 go figure?  :D

she is making a come back i tell ya...

I like xp64 but, i am having problems with my Kensington expert Mouse trackball.
there are no drivers for it and UT3, there is a new patch which wont apply.

Out in the forums, someone says to use x-mouse 64 bit driver to get all the
buttons working on the Kensington. The only discussions for UT3 are for the
beta version with xp64 from '07

Any thoughts as to a direction i should look? Only one of my coworkers
is a gamer and he wants me to convert to World of Warcraft. I keep telling
him that I am ~SiN~ for life and UT is the only way to game.

before installing... use sytem restore to make a new restore point first. that way you can un do it if you have problems also you will find even more data at the bottom of the page.

drivers.... try this says 64 bit xp  :D Smart driver....

as for your coworker... let him know i am turning WOW players onto UT here...lol
started with a guy who has a slightly older machine, can't run high end games.... so i gave him a copy of 99.
week later two other guys asked.
the first guy lent to a buddy of his... now he wants his own copy... go figure...

also this... track mouse

BTW what version is it and what port are you using? PS2 / USB if your using PS2 see about an adapter to usb (make sure data both ways, some adapters only go one way)

i am also seeing people posting about problems with Vista as well for this mouse.
but other people say works fine?? go figure

as a last resort i would try DL the vista drivers and extract to a folder. then use add hardware and point to the vista driver

the only prob i have had so far with drivers was for two older printers.
HP deskjet 5440... i used a driver for a 990C printer the same way add hardware point to driver.
and for a lexmark all in 1, for that i used Vista driver 64 bit... works great. same way add... point to driver
